More and more people each and every day now realize that we must look to alternative energy sources for the future. The two easiest to take advantage of, and most readily available, come from the sun and wind. Basically, that’s the reason DIY Solar Power has become so popular. Manufacturers charge an incredible amount of money to homeowners for their solar power systems.

The cost is still exorbitant but the wonderful thing now is that homeowners can make and install their very own solar panels. And it can be done for a fraction of the cost. It sounds complicated, but building solar panels are very simple in practice. Just about all hardware stores stocked the tools and materials needed to complete the project.

Just about anyone that gives it an honest effort can do it because there are no specialized skills required. DIY solar power enthusiasts are a community of sorts and help each other through forums on the Internet as well as in other ways. Hobbyists and homeowners alike are finding that it can be quite rewarding to go green.

The cost of electricity will be reduced in a significant way, if not eliminated. The resale value of the home is also enhanced. The improvement in tech knowledge makes building solar power systems possible for just about anyone. It’s made of solar cells, batteries and mounts. Constructing solar cells is how the process begins.

The individual cells then work in tandem to turn the sun’s rays into electricity. The completed cells are then wired together which form the battle. It is the cells working in tandem that creates a functioning panel. The end product is called a photovoltaic solar panel. While photovoltaic sounds like an intimidating word, it simply means turning light into electricity. After that it must be installed on the home.

Electricity generated is then stored for later use, used immediately or sent to the utility company for credits. May be using the word sold is a bit misleading. What happens is that the house is wired to the electrical grid and the homeowner sends their excess electricity to the utility company.

Credits are rewarded to the homeowner that can be used to offset their electric bill. When enough credits are earned to eliminate the entire cost of the bill, it is known as going off the grid. Sounds pretty appealing doesn’t it? That’s because it is. DIY Solar Power saves quite a bit of money and those absolutely no damage to the environment.

In this article we will discuss some themes related to different types of constructions used to produce solar power. We will begin from the grid-tied systems.

A utility-interactive solar power system makes electricity, which is put directly to the grid. The word grid-tied means, that the system is tied, verbatim, to the grid. This system will accumulate the energy even when you are absent, when you and you are on vacation with your friends during the holidays. You just may use the energy after you come back home. That is why you will reduce your electricity bills` costs or even forget about them.

Known as solar modules (photovoltaic) panels, they give the beginning for very interesting process of transforming of solar energy into solar power. The word photovoltaic sounds in such a way because of physics rule, which says how the solar energy may be converted into electricity. Briefly, there are many silicon cells in each such panel, every cell gives the reaction with photons (units of lights), which came from the sun. Than direct current electricity is produced.

The construction of the panel also contains so-called mounting racks, which are used to orient PV panels properly. For instance, the panel may face the west, while the most effective side is north. There are three types of mounts, which are available: the most popular in cities rooftop, and less used ground and poles, which are set in concrete. There is also a great amount of additional equipment that is being used with the panels. But it depends on the certain type of the panel.

There is also a DC disconnect, which is used when safe disconnect of the flow of electricity from the PV panels is needed. It may happened in case of overload.

Such detail as inverter makes the raw DC power, which is produced by the solar panels, be converted to usable AC ( that means alternating current) power that may than be used in exploitation of the household equipment, lighting and other electric devices. That is because all of them run off alternating current electricity.

Such device as the AC Breaker Panel/Inverter AC Disconnect is located in the place where the dwelling wiring touches the power supply. It consists of special elements that can be used both for protecting from fires and for usual purposes.

Speaking briefly, all three types of panels are working similar. It is important to know some things when you decide to by the PV panels. You must buy the right panel depending on how much power your home needs, how much room and land you have to understand where it can be mounted.

You also can find that some manufacturers and sites saying that panel A is much more better because it is more effective at low light. It may be true, but listen: one panel may be more effective than the other under the same sun light with the difference of 1 percent. But in the same time this more efficient panel may take 15 percent more room space. So take it into consideration. If you have enough space you may take it, but in another case think before you buy the panel.

Be smart and use the aid of solar power grants to convert your life to better ecological balance with nature. Read about solar power grants, how to make proper use of them and where you can find these solar power grants.

Many people want to know if theywill save money if they install solar panels. Solar panels cost quite a bit and people want to know if the investment will pay down in the end. There are a few different ways to look at that query. One way to answer this question is to consider the environmental cost of using other methods for producing power. Another is to look at the cost of the solar cells themselves and work out how long it would most likely take for lower power and water bills to clear the panels.

The cost of solar energy panels continues to get go down in reply to advances in technology and increased demand. The price you pay for electricity , however , just continues to rise. Nowadays you’ll find a number of government programs offering tax credits to people who install renewable energy in their homes. This may actually lower the cost it can pay to install solar energy panels. There are many things which do into determining the cost of your solar cells. Learn more about cheap solar panels.

A few of these factors include things like the warranty period, the whole amount of electricity the unit is capable of manufacturing, and the brand. Although everyone want to pay as little as possible you want to look at more than price when you’re choosing inexpensive solar panels. When selecting solar panels one thing you need to be sure to look at is how long you may expect the system to last. One thing that can offer you an idea of this is the length of the warranty period. Try and stay with brands that supply a twenty to twenty five year warranty. This permits you to know that you may expect at least that many years from them.

The dimensions of the unit will also impact the final cost of the unit. The simplest way to compare prices for the different kinds of solar energy panels is by knowing the bucks per watt. The power output for a solar cell is measured in watts. The more watts a panel produces the larger itwill be. Choose a solar energy panel system which can produce enough watts to meet your requirements.

Jobs are lost on a grand scale, and the United States workforce is scrambling to reeducate, retrain and switch professions. Amidst the recession, there is a single field that is soaring with opportunities.

That is jobs in alternative energy such as solar. Green collar jobs are being created thanks to the environmentally friendly use of energy in businesses and homes.

Careers in solar energy range from making solar panels, installing them, and servicing them. Moreover, other careers in solar energy include the manufacture of home solutions that allow for an easy plug and play adaptability of various solar panel options in modern new home construction. Yet, did you know that the demand for trained solar technicians does not end with the home itself but instead goes much further and deeper than that.

Other careers in solar energy deal with the various public use venues that now rely on solar energy for lighting, signage, and several mechanical aspects of doing business.

What is more, the large scale harnessing of solar energy requires not only installers and technicians, but also administrators and electricity flow designers who can adequately manage the alternate sources of energy concurrently with the conventional means of providing electricity. Training for solar energy careers is available at some junior colleges as well as online.

Grants from the government have been offered to stimulate agriculture, industry, residential development, utility expansion, commerce, science and public enterprise. They may reduce the cost of manufacturing or operation. They may lead to added research and development.

They may help people afford technology that will benefit the world. Grants renewable energy focuses on solar energy sources, geothermal sources and alternative wind energy sources. For right now, grants renewable energy can help pay for new heaters, solar panels, roofs, appliances, windows and more.

resource renewable energy
Rather than approve outright grants renewable energy checks, state and federal governments often like to offer tax rebates instead. However, House Bill 473 provides money up front, rather than after-the-fact tax credits. The new measure could pay for up to 35% of the resources renewable energy cost of a project or as much as $100,000 to $500,000, depending on the technology.

Federal grants are also available for up to 30% of a project’s cost, making the total subsidy 65%. So if turbine wind energy was something of interest to a business owner, he or she would only have to pay 35% of the cost to install turbine wind energy or solar supplies sources.

The U.S. Department of Energy offers grants renewable energy funds through a Weatherization program and a State Energy Program. Weatherization grants help low-income families reduce their utility bills and create more energy efficient homes through installing new heating/cooling systems, new windows, insulation or some other approved renovation.

For farmers, one of the best grants renewable energy programs is called the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), established in May 2008 as part of the Food, Conservation and Energy Act.Interested citizens can get more information from www.doe.gov or www.focusonenergy.com.

In addition to resource renewable energy programs, there are other ways to save money by making resources renewable energy upgrades. Bank or government loans for energy may bring down the interest rate to save investors thousands of dollars.

sources wind energy
Cash rebates can inspire responsible purchases by offsetting the cost differential between a regular appliance and an Energy Star appliance, while putting money back into the buyers’ pockets quickly.

Lastly, Energy Efficient Mortgages allow homeowners to qualify for larger mortgage loans if there are wind, geothermal, hydro or solar energy sources on the property.

Jobs are lost on a grand scale, and the United States workforce is scrambling to reeducate, retrain and switch professions. Amidst the recession, there is a single field that is soaring with opportunities.

That is jobs in alternative energy such as solar. The environmentally friendly procurement of energy and its various way of being utilized in the home or in business has given rise to the formation and development of green collar jobs which require filling.

Careers in solar energy include the manufacture of solar panels, the installation of said panels, and of course also the servicing of them, once installed. Moreover, other careers in solar energy include the manufacture of home solutions that allow for an easy plug and play adaptability of various panel options in modern new home construction. Trained solar technicians are in demand with homes, but beyond that as well.

Other careers in solar energy involve public use venues which use solar energy for lighting, signs, and mechanical aspects.

What is more, the large scale harnessing of solar energy requires not only installers and technicians, but also administrators and electricity flow designers who can adequately manage the alternate sources of energy concurrently with the conventional means of providing electricity. Training for careers in solar energy is available at some junior colleges as well as online.

What Are Solar Panels? Solar panels are what you put on your roof, or pole mounted, or even ground mounted to capture the power of the sun and turn it into something mankind can use. Specifically, solar panels take on one of two types: solar thermal collectors used to capture heat, and photo voltaic solar modules which convert the heat and light from the sun into electricity.

In many third world countries, you see large black plastic bottles on the roofs of most homes. These are a form of solar thermal collector used to heat the water for household use. In areas near the equator where the suns shine almost every day, for most of the day, these are a very effective way to heat water for daily use.

In developed countries, solar panels acting as thermal collectors are generally closed tube systems of air flow capture devices. For heating space, the air can be sent into porous rock, like lava rock. For heating of water, for use as either water to use or water to heat the home, panels that cycle some form of liquid that does not freeze, such as anti-freeze or glycerol is used, in a drain back fashion.

But the big rave these days is in photo voltaic (or PV) electric generation. PV solar panels are often referred to as solar modules, which are ganged together to capture the suns power and create electricity that can power you home, or even better, flow back into the grid where anyone else can consume the power you are generating.

Advantages and Disdvantages of Solar Power

With all the hype of solar energy, you must become aware that there are advantages and disadvantages regarding solar.
Let’s start out with the disadvantages, and get it over:

•	It only works when the sun shines
•	Generation is the easy part, storage is the hard part
•	Power companies generally limit what you can connect to the grid
•	If you buy today, you may miss the new technology of tomorrow

but enough doom and gloom, what are the advantages?
•	Go Green
•	Reduce your electricity costs
•	Lock in your current rate for future power
•	Get paid to install solar

These are just a couple advantages.

So, to recap, “Solar panel” describes two types of devices that collect energy from the sun:
* Solar photovoltaic modules use solar cells to convert light from the sun into electricity.
* Solar thermal collectors use the sun’s energy to heat water or another fluid such as oil or antifreeze.

Nth Degree Energy (http://NthDegreeEnergy.com) offers Solar Energy Solutions to residential homeowners and commercial/business owners in the Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona regions. We design, install, warrant and maintain your solar photo voltaic electric generation system as a turnkey solution. You sit back, relax, lock in your electricity rate for years to come, and know you are helping mother earth survive a little longer.

In this day and age, it is your responsibility and your obligation to be environmentally conscious and do your part towards conserving energy.

Cutting energy consumption is just one way to save, but it is also important to search for other types of fuel to eliminate air pollution and cease global warming. By using organic fuels like bio diesel and bio gas, air pollution and global warming can be reduced to some extent.

Cars are invented that can perform through batteries and solar power.
Invention and usage of transportation by such means must be initiated and provided encouragement, for using it on a large scale.

This would result in less air pollution which in turn reduces the global warming and save the planet we live in. The solar cooker, which provides energy from the sun and converts it to power to cook with, should be used by people as an alternative to LPG and the microwave oven.

These are harmless and let us encourage all homes to become solar homes in the future so that we make the planet a liveable and lovable place for our next generation.

A solar roof no longer means adding square mirrored tiles to the roof of your home to make it solar efficient.

Presently you can buy solar roof panels which are made from such materials and are so designed that they are very similar to ordinary shingles in appearance.

You can replace all or only part of your roof with these solar shingles.
The portion of the roof having solar equipment is then joined through wire to the collector or combiner box.

This runs into certain equipment which powers the home. There are multiple types of systems. One type is a system which is not connected to your utility company’s lines. This means that you use the solar power to power your own home alone.

In most instances a battery backup system should be added in the event due to climate or other issues the solar system does not provide or store enough energy to power the home. The other type is a solar system which is connected to the utility power lines.

Under this system you can generate solar power for your home as well as be connected to the utility grid if you need additional power or have any type of failure with the solar and battery system.

When we made our new house, I was not unduly worried about interiors and such things because I had entrusted the work to one reputed company and all I had to do was give my preferences and release funds as and when they required.

My only concern was to look for a good company which could take of residential solar supply.

Since the city we had moved to, was not still aware of the importance of solar power, we had to really scout around looking for a good supplier of solar equipment, but our efforts did not bear fruit.

At the end, we were compelled to call an agent from an organization in the adjoining town to carry out the task.

Of course, the person charged for his travel but we did not mind. He did a brilliant job much to our satisfaction. And it should be said, we could easily offset the cost of the solar panels by the money we saved on our energy bill.

Solar panels are made out of several components which work together in a complicated manner to alter the sun’s heat and energy into usable, renewable electricity. But how do solar panels work?

This is a basic question that requires scientific knowledge and extensive research. Experts have allotted a great deal of resources to deal with the issues involved in energy conversion. The technology behind solar panels is constantly improving since many institutions around the world are heavily invested in this technology.

People around the world are depending on the sun, since this is a practical source of energy and can be established anywhere. The only crucial requirement to maximize the panel’s capability is visibility and exposure to the sun.

The process by which solar panels work is a very extensive and complicated conversion of different energy sources into a usable energy. The question can best be answered through several simple steps that have all the scientific processes involved.

Basically the parts and material used to create solar panels include semiconductor plates, a photovoltaic cell, batteries, and electrical wires.

The heart and soul of the unit is the photovoltaic cell. It is the component which absorbs electronic molecules from the sun’s light, allowing it to be used and stored as electricity.

- The first step in the process begins when the sunlight comes into contact with the photovoltaic cell. This cell basically dissects sunlight into its basic components. These are the protons, electrons and neutrons. The photovoltaic cell absorbs only the electrons since they are the ones needed to generate and store electricity.

- The second step is the transport of electrons to the conductor wires. The semiconductor plates are the materials which filter the electrons and transport them to the conductor wires. This is a very rapid process.

- The third step is the passing through of electrons into the conductor wires. Wires with lengths as long as several hundred yards are used, since the constant process of electron extraction requires several channels to transport them. At this phase, the concentrated amount of electrons is considered as raw electricity and can power several electronic devices at this stage.

- The fourth step is sending the electrons through the energy converter, which actually filters out the other unwanted molecules to avoid power disruption. This is very important to assure that the content stored would be pure electrons.

- The final stage that answers the question of how do solar panels work is the storage of the gathered electrons in the battery. By this time, the batteries contain the electricity, which can power any electronic device. The batteries are connected to a bigger battery or power source to have a collective measure of the amount of electricity produced.

Since the sun’s rays shine almost every place in the world, it can be set up virtually anywhere. Millions of dollars are saved yearly by people relying on solar panels.

If you want to reduce your carbon footprint or save on energy bills, you may want to think about researching homemade solar power. Integrating solar power into your life is a great idea. Energy from the sun is a renewable resource available to everyone. However, harnessing the power from the sun into solar panels can sound tricky. The truth is anyone can do it themselves, at home.

Commercial made solar panels can be very expensive. Thus, building them yourself can be an inexpensive and attractive option. You can have control over how much power you can generate with a homemade panel. You can choose how many panels you’ll use and how much wattage each panel will have. Because you are making the panels, you have complete control over it all.

One thing to consider before buying the supplies needed for solar panels is storage space. Do you have enough room to house the project? Do you have room to place the panels, once they’re complete? Most often you can place them on the roof so they can get direct sunlight. Talk with local solar retailers to get started. Ask a ton of questions and gather information on building your own panels, before you begin purchasing supplies.

By making your own homemade solar panels, you’ll show your family you are capable of making a difference in the environment. In addition, you’ll save a great deal of money on your energy bills. Thus, taking the time to research and create your own homemade solar panels can be well worth the time and energy.

Although most people are under the impression that the field of photovoltaics is a new subject, based on recent invention, this is not actually the case. But first of all lets take a look at what “photovoltaic” means.

The word “photovoltaics” can be split up in to two parts: “photo” and “voltaic”. The term “photo” is derived from the Greek word “phos” which means “light.” A “volt” is a measurement unit for electrical force. So, literally, “photovoltaic” means “electricity through light.” And that is exactly what the word means: “capturing solar energy in the form of light and converting it into electricity.”

So how do we convert sunlight into solar energy and electricity?

In order to convert sunlight into electricity you need to use a material called a “semiconductor”.

In simple terms, a semiconductor is a material that acts as an insulator, but is also able to conduct electricity under certain conditions. We employ the characteristics of semiconductors when we convert solar energy (in the form of sunlight) into electricity. It is done as follows:

When a semiconductor (such as silicon) is exposed to light, it releases small amounts of electrical energy. This is due to the process of electrons (bits of electricity) leaving the surface of the semiconductor, in response to being hit by light. We call this the “photoelectric effect.”

Sunlight is made up of “photons”, which are particles of solar energy. Not all photons are the same and not all carry the same amount of energy. A simple explanation for this is that light comes in many colors. Some forms of light are visible to the eye, while some forms are invisible (such as ultraviolet or infrared light). But, regardless of color or visibility, the fact remains that light is still light and the basic particle of light is still a photon.

When a photon hits a photovoltaic cell (also called a “PV cell” for short) one of three things occurs:

1. The photon can be reflected by the photovoltaic cell

2. The photon can be absorbed by the photovoltaic cell

3. Or (believe it or not) the photon can even pass right the photovoltaic cell. Only the photons which are absorbed by the photovoltaic cell are converted into solar energy (in the form of electricity).

When a photon is absorbed by the semiconductor (the material in the photovoltaic cell which produces electricity) the solar energy of the photon is passed to an electron in one of the atoms of the semiconductor. With this additional energy the electron is able to break away from its atom. Thus an electrical current is generated.

This is the simplicity of what occurs in a photoelectric cell, when sunlight is converted into electricity. The electricity so produced can now be power an electrical device.

As you can see, the field of photovoltaics consists of the technology and the principles we use to convert solar energy into a usable form.

- Photovoltaic Systems

Now that we know what a photovoltaic cell is and how it works, lets take this a step further and take a look at what a photovoltaic system is.

A photovoltaic system has consists of the following components:

- A “photovoltaic module”, or “pv module”. This is a group of photovoltaic cells connected together, commonly referred to as a solar panel, though the terms “PV module” and “solar charger” are used to describe it as well.

- One or more batteries to collect and store the solar energy, which was converted into electricity by the PV modules (or solar panels, solar chargers, or whatever you choose to call them).

- A “charge controller”. This an electrical device which prevents the batteries from being ruined through overcharging, and which also prevents electrical current from flowing back out of the battery into the PV module or solar panel.

- “An inverter.” An inverter an electrical device which changes the electricity produced by the PV modules into alternating current. Alternating current is the type of electricity you get from your wall sockets at home. An inverter is only used with PV systems when you want to produce alternating current as your end result. If you run your house on solar energy, the inverter is installed between the batteries and the fuse panel.

A good quality PV system will operate for more than twenty years. The PV module, having no moving parts, has an expected lifetime exceeding thirty years. Most system problems occur due to poor or sloppy installation.

So how much electricity is generated by a photovoltaic system?

The average PV system will generate about 180 kilowatt-hours per square meter, in most areas of the United States.

A PV system rated at 1 kilowatt will produce 1800 kilowatt hours per year.

In case you are not clear on what a “kilowatt-hour” is, this is a way of measuring the amount of electricity produced or consumed.

Let me put it in monetary terms, which might be easier to understand. Many PV panels are guaranteed to last twenty years or more – most even claim to last thirty years. Even if we factor in the natural loss of efficiency in the PV modules over a period of twenty to thirty years, a PV system will generate close to 36,000 Kilowatt-hours in twenty years and 54,000 kilowatt hours over thirty years.

This is the equivalent of $10,000 worth of electricity at current energy prices.

Therefore, though initial installation of a PV system might seem a little costly, in the long run it is far cheaper to run on solar energy.

There are different types and sizes of solar panels (photovoltaic cells) which produce varying amounts of solar power.

————————

There are actually two types of solar energy system.

One is connected to the national grid and the other one is a standalone system.

When solar energy system is connected to the grid it means that all electricity which you do not use will go directly to the grid.

To put it in another way you are spinning your meter backwards.

The solar energy system which is not connected to grid is very similar except that it has a battery bank for storing the electricity for later use.

In both cases there is an inverter which converts the direct current (DC)from the solar panels to alternating current (AC), which is what we normally use in our homes.

The inverter is connected to the grid through your electricity meter if you have a grid connection.

Both systems are easy to maintain and require little effort. If you do use a battery bank there is some checking needed for the batteries depending on what type of batteries you use.

The solar panels are very durable and they often come with a 20 years guarantee. In most cases they do last 30 years so after a few years you produce very cheap electricity and your costs will be very predictable.

solar panels are very scalable and you can easily add more panels and get more electricity if you need to.

A panel is simply a collection of solar cells.

Usually they are made of crystalline silicon, or a combination of silicon with another material. It can also be stacked layers of alloy materials.

The silicon is divided into tiny disks. They are less than a centimeter in thickness, and are then polished and fixed from any cutting damage.

Thin silver wires, are spread across each disk and they are laid out in a grid design on top of the panel.

Then it is covered with a thin layer of glass and a material added to the bottom of the panel with a type of cement cement to help prevent overheating.

The solar panels are mounted a little above a surface facing the sun, in order to allow cooling breezes to run under the panels.
The power from the sun is free and inexhaustible. This vast, clean energy resource represents a very strong alternative to the fossil fuels.

It would be a severe injustice to our children not to take advantage of such a widely available resource.

Electric bills seem to be on the rise with no relief in sight. It’s no wonder more and more people are looking into installing learn how to make solar panels in an effort to save money. But, their enthusiasm quickly fades as soon as they discover the price of professionally installed panels. It can be very expensive, and puts solar power out of reach of the average home owner. However, you can save thousands of dollars if you learn how to make solar panels yourself.

Most of you may be assuming that you have to have some sort of engineering degree or be a DIY genius in order to make your own solar panels. But doesn’t have to be the case. Learning how to make solar panels is a lot easier than you think. In fact, anyone can build their own solar panels, from teenagers on up, and you can do it in a weekend. Plus, you can build your solar panels for the fraction of the cost of what a pre-made solar panel system would cost you.

The great thing about learning how to make solar panels on your own is that you have a lot more control over the size of the system. This means that you can create a highly scalable system that can fit your needs as they grow.

My number one tip before you even start your solar panel project is having a quality manual. And, don’t be surprised at how easily you’ll find the supplies you need. In fact, you’ll find most of what you’ll need at your local hardware store. I’m talking about stuff like plywood, rolls of copper wire, and sheets of glass. You can also find inexpensive photovoltaic cells for your project quite easily, either over the internet at places like eBay, or from local retailers.

It’s not going to take you very long to make your solar panels. The average, inexperienced do-it-yourselfer can make their own 100-Watt panels in about a day, provided they have all their materials at hand. 100-Watts may not sound like much, but you’ll be able to power some of your smaller appliances, or perhaps even your workshop so you’ll be able to build more solar panels and your first panel will provide all the power! Now that’s pretty neat.

But, before you begin, you must get your hands on a good, quality manual that will provide the detailed instructions you need. It should be able to teach you how to make solar panels even if you’re not very mechanically inclined. You get what you pay for so don’t skimp when you’re ready to purchase your manual.

The final cost of making your solar panels is pretty low so you can afford a quality manual. I won’t lie to you. Making your own solar panels isn’t easy, and will take a bit of effort, but with the right manual you’ll be on you’re way to learning how to make solar panels to meet all your energy needs in no time. Then sit back and relax the next time the power goes out on your block. You’ll be the only one watching TV, and heating up food in the microwave while everyone else is eating a canned dinner by candlelight.

Yes, a professionally installed solar panel systems can cost thousands. Who has money to spare in today’s economy? Make the choice to go “solar” today, and learn how to make solar panels on your own. You’ll be saving money, and the environment. For more information, visit http://renewableenergyathome.info.

For a very long time, scientists have always looked into utilizing solar energy as an unconventional way of harnessing energy to meet human needs. Further researches have now given us various machines that work on this type of unconventional energy. Now we have prototypes of solar powered cars, solar heated homes and even solar powered heaters. Some of these amazing machines have now been extensively disseminated and are now available for use in many green homes in areas of the world.

In order for our homes to have heated water, running turbines and conditioned to our preffered temperature, we need first to collect the energy that the sun gives off. The utilization of solar panels is one method of harnessing solar power.
The sun’s thermal energy is picked up by these shiny black panels providing electricity to any connected appliances that operate on solar power.

A certain appliance can only operate on solar power depending on the power of each grid on a solar panel. These grids are called photovoltaic cells or photovoltaic modules. They are arranged on the solar panel in a way that they could make the most of the collection of sunlight and then use the obtained energy efficiently. These photovoltaic arrays are now massively manufactured because of the large demand for it, hence the costs of producing them have greatly lowered.

Semiconductors allow photovoltaic cells to use the heat of the sun and transform it into electricity. Commonly these cells can be seen in certain large facilities, emergency telephones and even in your solar-powered calculators. Now it is becoming more and more possible to insulate your home and heat your water with the use of this technology, because of the lower cost of creating and maintaining solar panels. Do-it-yourself solar power kits are also offered now that can help you generate solar power at home and greatly ease your dependence on commercial power at a much lower cost.

Although the creation of solar panels and the use of solar energy itself have lowered in price, it is still rather costly compared to the use of most conventional energy. So if you are thinking of using solar energy to heat your water and insulate your home, also consider the following tips and reminders.

-Doing a comprehensive study on the solar panels different providers have to offer can be very helpful. This way you can end up with the best solar panel and heating package that suits your energy needs at home and the amount you are willing to spend. What you must search for is the package that lets you heat water, insulate your home and power essential electrical apparatus.

-Solar hot water systems can heat different sources of water in your home. You can get it to produce hot water straight from your faucet, and even heat the water in your swimming pool. This is also one of the things you should take note of when inquiring for any heating package.

The concept of solar panels can be very economical and practical in many ways. Since electronic grids and gallons of fuel are nearly impossible sometimes to ship, especially to isolated areas, the use of solar energy may be the only solution. Far-off areas such as deserts and islands almost always have sun all year round which greatly suits the application of using solar power. Solar panels are easier to ship, even to the most isolated areas where conventional energy sources are unattainable. Solar panels are also easily transported in boats and airline carriers which require energy, but not the bulk of electric grids and gallons of fuel.

Notwithstanding the upsides of solar power, it is still costly compared to grid-based electricity. Also the photovoltaic cells technology that we have is still limited that a number of these are required to produce enough electricity to supply bigger needs. This means more costs for purchasing and maintenance. And since you need a large area with more photovoltaic cells, this is not advisable if you live in a suburban area where space may be limited. Another thing is that solar cells only produce direct electric current which first needs to be adaptedto alternate current, or AC. This can result to about a four to twelve percent energy loss.

The use of solar energy to heat water and your home is a great way to save the environment and money in the long run. It helps to do a comprehensive research about home made solar power first before thinking of using it in your own home. Weighing prices and doing a lot of inquiry can bring you the best package that will suit you and your budget.

Solar panels can now be installed in residential homes, letting users greatly reduce their electric bill and do their duty in preserving the environment through the use of the renewable solar energy Although this technology gives countless of benefits, people are still hesitant to use this mostly because of the installation fee and its functionality.

Site location, orientation of the house, obstructions to the sunlight, climate and weather are all going to figure into how you set up solar panels for homes Even when these considerations aren’t optimal, there are solutions enabling you to utilize solar energy to power your home. The effectiveness of your solar panel depends on the amount of sunlight it receives, needing about six hours of constant sunlight the year round Solar panels work best if they are installed in an angle of orientation facing the sun.

There are two types of solar power, solar electric power which use photovoltaic cells to convert solar radiation into electricity, and solar thermal energy where the sun’s energy is used to heat water

A good solar hot water panel system is able to provide an average household with around a third of its annual hot water supply. While this may not sound much, it can reduce energy costs by a considerable amount With the integration of solar panels in addition to this hot water system, plus the addition of other renewable energy sources such as residential wind turbines, they can all work together in providing a renewable, cheap and clean source of energy for your home.

How home solar panels look on the roofs is another concern for some homeowners Photovoltaic panel designs, thanks to the latest technology, are now smaller and more compact. Today, these panels would look like ordinary roof tiles, only with the functionality of a solar panel; they can keep out the sun and rain, and with the ability to convert solar energy into electricity, helps out in cutting back electricity budget

One advantage of solar powered home systems is that energy can be stored in battery packs and chargers, so energy sources are still available even during fall and winter, when there are shorter periods of sunlight.

A household running completely on photovoltaic electricity is possible, but is not recommended The costs involving the installation for a whole house with electricity from solar energy would be quite high for the average homeowner. It is preferable to use solar panels together with traditional power supplies It is much more cost-effective and energy-saving than depending on fossil fuels alone. You will still depend on fossil fuels but the solar electricity can still provide substantial amount of power, enough to reduce future energy bills
Installation fees can be expensive, but with the constantly rising utility rates, having a supporting source of energy for your home is a good investment. You can not only protect yourself from price hikes and power outages, but also protect nature through the use of a renewable energy source. Solar energy can lower your fuel costs, particularly when used in conjunction with home wind turbine systems.

Imagine a T-shirt that runs you iPod, a pair of jeans that recharges your cell phone, and a beach umbrella that runs a TV. Sound far-fetched?

Okay, I will agree with you that it does.

Nevertheless, research into photovoltaics and solar energy has reached a point where these are definite possibilities.

What Are Organic Photovoltaics?

Organic Photovoltaics, or OPV for short, are new types of semiconductors which are based on organic materials.

Though they are still in the research phase, OPVs can be made as thin flexible sheets, and as such they can be incorporated into cloth or paper.

Due to the fact that they are flexible they can be mass-produced at low cost. So another result of this advanced research could be low-cost mass-produced inexpensive solar cells.

For more information you may also see Thin Film Photovoltaics.

What are Semiconductors?

Rest assured, whether you understand the below or not, it won’t affect whether a solar charging T-shirt will work for you (if it ever hits the market).

But I will try to explain it in simple terms, just so you have a better idea of what we are talking about.

The following is a brief description of semiconductors are.

Semiconductors (organic or not) are materials that have either too many free electrons, or have a scarcity of electrons.

Semiconductors with too many free electrons are called “N-type semiconductors” amongst scientific types of people.

Semiconductors that don’t have enough electrons are called “P-type”. P-type semiconductors have “holes.” Holes are places where there the atom “theoretically” should have an electron, but does not. (Which just goes to show that reality and theory don’t always match up.)

By combining materials that have these qualities, we are able to make electrical components such as transistors (transistors are devices which help regulate the flow of electricity).

Some semiconductors are sensitive to light when they are stuck together. It is these semiconductors that are used in photovoltaic cells. When they are exposed to light, a tiny electrical current is created. This is not a new discovery.

But, as stated earlier, it is new that we are able to create a semiconductor out of organic materials. And that opens the door to a whole new range of possibilities.

Incidentally, computer chips are usually made out of semiconductors. So this new discovery might have some interesting applications in the field of computers.

Humanized robots? Artificial intelligence? Who knows.

Thin Film Solar Panels are made up of a lightweight and flexible material which can be rolled up and easily transported. Thus, they are very useful as a source of portable solar power.

The following are some basic facts about Thin Film Solar Panels:

Any person who has ever used a solar-powered calculator has had “hands on” experience with Thin Film Photovoltaics. This technology has been with us for years, creating the solar cell strips which are used to power calculators

Thin film technology has now evolved to a point where we can mass-produce solar panels, through the use of machines not unlike printing presses.

The substance used to “print” thin film solar panels is called solar ink.

Solar ink can be made in any color. In fact, it is possible to design the inks in such a way as to make use of different parts of the light spectrum.

Solar presses print thin film solar panels called solar rolls. A solar roll is 13 inches wide and can be up to 2400 feet long.

A solar roll can be cut to the required size after the solar ink has been printed onto it.

The electrical connections in a solar roll are automatically welded in by laser. This takes away a lot of the time which is required to construct our “conventional” solar panels.

Once solar technology reaches a cost effectiveness, of $1.00 per watt, its prices will be competitive with conventional fossil fuels. TFPV is rapidly approaching this benchmark and could possibly beat this in the near future.

Solar ink can be printed onto fabrics, plastics and metals, allowing one to design solar panels for a wide range of products, each tailored to their specific needs.

Thin film photo voltaic solar panels are not as effective as solid solar panels. It’s the fact that it is so much cheaper and lighter than conventional solar panels, that gives it the “edge”.

The U.S. military is extremely interested in the development of thin-film technology, and spent 1.7 million dollars at one laboratory last year in order to facilitate the development of thin film photovoltaics. It’s interested in using thin film photovoltaics for troop communication devices and to reduce the heat signatures when troops using conventional generators.

Solar shades and tents are now available, using thin film photovoltaics, that provide up to 2kw of power. This allows them to operate laptops, communication devices, TVs and much more.

Thin film photovoltaic devices are now widely available on the consumer market. A good example of this is the flexible Brunton Solarroll which comes in several sizes.

A thin film flexible solar panel weighing less than a pound is capable of recharging a laptop. Due to its flexibility, it can be rolled up and transported easily.

Thin film photovoltaics are also a realistic source of emergency power. This makes them a handy and economic addition to emergency preparedness kits and wilderness survival kits.

Current research on thin film photovoltaics is aimed at increasing the power output of thin film solar panels, should it achieve this goal there is a very good possibility that we will have solved the problem cheap clean renewable energy.

The New Stimulus Plan For Renewable Energy Alternative Energy

In the coming year when the new U.S. administration takes control over the economy. We will see a stimulus that will include green energy steps toward solar power . Since our demand for renewable energy will continue to get stronger, eliminating carbon dioxide emissions will require adopting green energy practices. However, the cost has been prohibitively high for most of the commonly used and available methods. Generating energy from home has many possibilities, including getting a rebate or check from the power company for excess power that you’ve sold back.

One would hope that incentives given by the government will include, tax credits given to tax payers in some form of a credit on their taxes for energy efficiency purchases. Some tax credits were established under the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The credits can be taken on weatherization, windows, vehicle purchases and appliances. The specifics can be found out from the IRS, local government and your energy company. The credits are available to individuals and businesses.

The Next Step In Solar Energy Wind Energy

Some local governments and state governments already give incentives to residents that are energy efficient. To find out if you qualify for such incentives you should contact you local power company and department of energy.
Incentives are a great way to get people on board with renewable energy. They can make someone choose an energy efficient product over one that is not. Energy efficiency incentives are something that may not be around forever, so go ahead and take advantage of them and move tward energy independence now.

Purchases of certain energy star appliances may make you eligible for rebates. These rebates are offered by partners of the energy star program. Many times your local power supplier will provide a list in addition to energy star.
Solar energy efficiency is very well the basis of the future of energy in this country. The homeowner will benefit from the incentives.

The Focus On Solar Energy Sustainable Development

Public and private entities will benefit from the new administrations focus on solar energy making the U.S. energy independent .

Solar energy is a favored renewable and it is easily available . The new advances in solar energy are moving it quickly to the forefront of alternative energy sources. New equipment has been developed that allows for energy to be stored for use later when the sun is not out.

Several recent innovations in solar technology have brought us to the brink of affordable solar power that can be used anywhere. Flexible film solar can be built into just about anything, from awnings to bikinis. Now we will start working on affordability. New advances on how to put the flexible sheets together has recently become available. Even solar paint is on the horizon.
The next step to really getting solar everywhere as it should be it to have similar revolutionary advances in storage technology.

Solar panels are the wave of the future and when you consider that already the technology is in place to harness the rays of the sun and turn it into life sustaining heat and cool as well as light, there is little surprise that commercial as well as residential consumers are lining up for their own solar powered systems. The business of solar panels – construction and pricing trends – thus far are the main reason why some homeowners are thinking twice about making this step, but with the recent innovations in the industry this, too, is subject to change.

First and foremost, the modules which are installed for the actual collection of sun energy have come down in price significantly and they are no longer the big, bulky and overall eyesore quality additions to a roof they once were considered to be. Although the technology is still a long way of from simply being carried at the local big box home improvement store for the avid do-it-yourselfer, a conversation with a skilled installer and sales agent educates the interested consumer in construction and pricing trends.

What makes solar panels – construction and pricing trends in particular – so favorable in the view of the consumer today is the fact that she or he is in the driver’s seat when it comes to determining how extensive the installation should be. Is the goal to get off the local power grid completely, or is it a mere supplement to the already existing energy source? Determining cost and extent of construction, the homeowner may decide if she would like to simply put a toe into the waters of change or boldly go all out!

The new resurgence of environmental consciousness has changed the way many consumers now want to receive their electricity. In the past only a few would consider solar energy to be the way of the future, but thanks to a recent shift in awareness there are no solar power plants and solar farms meeting energy needs of those ready to do right by Mother Earth and search out for a clean alternative to fossil fuels.

Nuclear energy was fraught with dangerous setbacks and to this end never really achieved the societal backing it needed to proceed while wind energy is not as reliable as the sun when it comes to finding an energy source that is going to deliver in the long term. Even with shifting weather patterns the sun, unlike the winds, is more or less the most reliable source possible.

Consumers hope that in addition to being environmentally friendly, getting their electricity from solar power plants and solar farms will put an end to rising energy costs. Companies are jumping on the bandwagon by also upgrading their personal solar panel production and selling consumers at the home for their very own solar power plant that will charge up batteries during the day with energy which may be used later on to power a plethora of appliances.

As <a href=”http://www.sunjuiced.com/category/solar-solutions/” target=_blank >solar power</a> plants and solar farms meet energy needs, consumers catch on to the fact that this energy source is virtually unlimited; there no longer is a need for treaties, expensive offshore drilling, or even dubious compromises that may still cause problems for the environment. Instead, clean energy truly is the wave of the future.

As solar technology advances, the more compact a solar power system is becoming, which is increasingly attractive to homeowners who want to reduce their utility bills. In addition to being cost effective, choosing to install solar panelsinto your home is very friendly to the environment. In this article, we’ll explain how solar power works and how you can use it to your benefit.

Photovoltaic means electricity from light. This solar power system uses daylight to power ordinary electrical equipment like household appliances, computers and lighting. Having your own solar photovoltaic (PV) system means that you can generate your own electricity from the free and inexhaustible solar power. A photovoltaic system never needs refueling, emits no pollution and can be expected to operate for twenty to twenty-five years with minimal maintenance. A typical PV system on a house roof could prevent over 34 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions during its lifetime.

The electrical output of a PV cell is dependent upon the intensity of the light to which it is exposed. Therefore, PV cells usually generate more electricity on bright days than when skies are overcast. This does not mean that your solar system will not work when skies are grey. Over the last few years, PV technology has also started to be introduced into urban areas, incorporated into the roofs and facades of homes, offices and factories.

Before installing a solar power system into your home, carefully evaluate your goals. Do you want to completely eliminate your electricity bill? How many solar panels will your home need to be able to operate effectively? Lastly, how many solar panels can you reasonably afford? Before you completely cover your roof in panels, keep in mind that installing more modules beyond a certain point ceases to be financially efficient. Using a Solar Pathfinder to determine the net energy output of partially shaded modules will determine if it is economically beneficial to install modules in those areas.

Investing in a solar power system for your home or business is a wise decision, both economically and environmentally. A properly designed and installed solar system can pay for itself in as little as five to ten years — and even faster if you take advantage of manufacturer and government rebates. Solar electricity can raise the value of the home and create a brighter outlook for the future of our planet.

The sun may be millions of miles away, but we can utilize its energy to perform countless functions. Solar technology has made giant leaps forward in recent years and average Imagine being in a remote area without power lines or gas generators. You are not able to power a laptop, use a hairdryer or watch television.

With the advances in solar technology, there are portable solar power power sources with which you can do all of those things and more. Portable solar power can make life safer and more convenient when you want to take your family on a vacation to a remote site. Electronic devices are a part of everyday living, so why not take them with you?

You may want to have a solar energy cell that you can use while you are hiking or traveling, such as a flexible panel that can be carried on your back. This way, you can charge your small equipment or a backup battery while you are busy enjoying yourself.

Keep in mind that while a solar cell performs best in bright sunlight, your other equipment usually doesn’t. Some solar cells come with a long cord so you can put your camera or laptop in the portable solar power which can make life safer and more convenient when you want to take your family on a vacation to a remote site.

Electronic devices are a part of everyday living, so why not take them with you? Portable solar energy is becoming less bulky and more affordable so that consumers can have a reliable source of electricity at any time and in any place.

The strength of the sun and how long the solar power device is exposed will impact the amount of electricity a solar cell produces. A solar power cell generates electricity faster when the sun or other light sources are brighter and a device with larger solar panels will produce more electricity than one with smaller panels.

As a child at school, you probably encountered prisms: glass shapes designed to reflect light internally, producing rainbows. The chances are that, later in life, you’ve purchased jewelery, ornaments or gift wrap which have been made using laser etching to produce tiny prisms, creating a bright shimmering effect.

It’s this effect which creates the holograms on your credit cards. Now a group of scientists in New York have found away to use prismatic technology to create new, smaller, more affordable solar panels.

Most solar panels
use lenses or mirrors to concentrate light so that it can be turned into electricity. This can be more efficient that the new prism method, but it’s a lot bulkier, limiting what can be done with solar accessories and inventions. The new prism panels are flat, sleek and lightweight, making them easy to incorporate into a variety of gadgets.

They’re resilient enough for use on rooftops but they can also be incorporated directly into your windows. You’ll be able to see out just as well, though your windows will look sparkly from the outside, but all the while your windows will be generating power for your home.

Because they’re so much less bulky and because they’re simple enough to make mass production easy, prism panels are far less expensive than their traditional counterparts. Their designers hope that, in the long term, they could cost less than half as much.

With their attractive, ultra-modern appearance, they’re bound to appeal, and other designers are already working to utilize them in the next generation of solar accessories
and inventions. They’re much easier to carry about, making them especially practical for solar gadgets designed for people on the move.

After all these years of struggling to make progress with traditional solar panels, designers see a bright future in the new prismatic technology. Very soon, solar power could become not only the greenest choice, but also the most affordable choice, even at the stage of installation.
