Solar Accessories for your Car

Everybody knows that one of the most important things we need to do to help save the planet is to change our driving habits. Many people are making an effort by buying more fuel efficient cars and switching to unleaded gasoline, but you may be surprised to hear that you can also make a difference to your car’s impact on the environment by using solar power.

No, this doesn’t mean that the wholly solar powered cars which you may have seen on television are now ready for the mass market. What it does mean is that you can provide for many of your subsidiary driving needs using solar accessories, each of which does its bit to cut down on your overall fuel consumption. And like all solar devices, solar accessories for your car help the environment at the same time as saving you money.

One of the major causes of excessive fuel consumption in automobiles is air conditioning. You’ll need this most on hot days when there’s a lot of sunlight, so why not switch to solar?

It’s easier than you might think. Solar powered fans are cheap to buy and easy to install. What’s more these increasingly popular solar accessories can be left running whilst your car is parked without you having to leave the engine on, meaning you’ll have a nice cool car to return to. Simply clip these solar accessories over the tops of your car windows, then wind the windows up to secure them. They’ll get all the energy they need from the sun and they’re just as efficient as traditional air conditioning.

Solar accessories are increasingly carried by smart drivers as a form of emergency back-up. One of the most popular solar accessories in this context is the solar battery charger, which can be used to charge your car’s battery whenever there is daylight. Even if you don’t think you’ll use it all the time (though it’s easily good enough to replace dependency on mains electricity), carrying this device means that you’ll have an emergency power source on hand if you should suffer a breakdown in the middle of nowhere.

There are lots of other handy solar accessories available for cars, from ashtrays which clean themselves to clip-on lights for rear seat passengers. Switching to solar accessories may be a small step, but it’s a step in the right direction, and it’s a great contribution to going green when driving.
