Spray on Electricity Heralds a Revolution

A lot of people would like to go solar, but installing panels and buying special solar gadgets is a lot of trouble. What if there were a simple form of solar power generator which you could simply spray onto whatever you wanted? Ridiculous, you may say - and yet it’s here. Utilizing nanotechnology in conjunction with a brand new plastic, this amazing new material is set to revolutionize solar options.

Although it’ll be a few years before it goes into large scale production, this exciting spray on solar material is already being eagerly incorporated into design ideas. One of the most useful of these could be loose plastic sheeting, very cheap to produce, which could simply be rolled over rooftops with no need for panels. Since this material is five times as efficient as traditional photo voltaic cells, sheeting like this could conceivably be used to power all of a house’s electricity needs, even keeping up with demand for new electronic gadgets and toys. Because it absorbs light from the infra-red part of the spectrum, it’s also much more efficient when light levels are low. On stormy days when you can scarcely detect any sunlight yourself, your power generating sheeting could still be doing its job.

Perhaps the most important thing about this new material is that, due to its greater efficiency, it could revolutionise the economics of solar power generation. Solar panels already pay for themselves (savings on power offsetting the purchase price and installation costs), but they can take a long time to do so. The new material could pay for itself very quickly, making it not so much a luxury item as an economic necessity. It could also be adapted for installation in all sorts of areas where solar panels are not practical, and it could give a boost to designers of portable solar items such as clothing.

With spray-on technology set to change the way we think about solar options, the future’s looking bright!
