Solar power is making headlines again and with the skyrocketing fuel costs, the recent rate hikes of the utility companies, and of course also the much overdue market innovations, it is not surprising that so many consumers are looking to the sun to fulfill a lot of their energy needs. What do you do with solar energy? If you have some solar panels installed on the roof of your home, you most likely have found a savvy way of lighting and heating your home. Charging your batteries throughout the day free of charge – courtesy of the sin – and then using this stored up energy in the evening or even throughout the day to keep cool, warm, and overall comfortable. On a much smaller scale you might decide to use a solar cooker that operates with little more than a reflector lid and some aluminum foil. Although it is not conducive to cooking up a three course meal, it comes in handy heating up things and reaching temperatures of up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. At the same time, a solar powered pool heater is sure to provide you with some backyard comfort as you get ready to enjoy the lazy days of summer without leaving home. Even commercial applications are now found for solar energy. There is the use of signage that is illuminated in the evenings with solar energy stored up throughout the day. Other uses are still evolving, but it is only a matter of time until solar energy is as commonplace as dependence on oil and gas is today.
